[Game Changer] - São Paulo, 2025
The game-changer project is an animated work developed by artist Luna Buschinell and produced by Aborda, created especially to occupy the LED screen at Shopping Cidade São Paulo. The work was located on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo - Brazil during the month of May 2025.
The work starts from the philosophical and existential premise that everyday reality could be perceived as a kind of constant simulation - a repetitive script that often leads us to an automated experience of life itself. To express this reflection, Buschinelli constructs a visual narrative centered on a protagonist accompanied by five hearts in pixel art - which takes us directly back to the central logic of video games, where the hearts represent "lives" or the player's vital energy.
At the center of the animation, the phrase "Despite everything, it's still you" acts as a conceptual turning point. The quote in question is taken from the independent indie game Undertale, where in a brief significant moment the character looks at herself in the mirror. Within the context of Luna's work, this phrase takes on a new role. Amid the visual and sound chaos of the city, it interrupts the automatic cycle of urban experience and proposes an instant of suspension - a subtle but powerful pause that invites the viewer to look at themselves.
The choice of pixel art aesthetics - characteristic of the visual language of electronic games from the 80s and 90s - contributes to building a nostalgic and critical atmosphere. This aesthetic reinforces the idea of simulation and refers to the universe of games as a metaphor for existence: numbered lives, invisible obstacles, pre-programmed paths. However, by inserting this narrative into the public and everyday space of the city, the work proposes a temporary break in this system, reintroducing the element of subjectivity and autonomy in the midst of accelerated collectivity.
Game-Changer, therefore, is not just a large-scale animation: it is a proposal for poetic interruption. The work therefore functions as a medium for a visual reminder that, despite everything - the masks, the speed and the social layers - there is still a "you" pulsing behind the surface.
